Evergreen Creative partnered with the Science Museum of Minnesota to fabricate and install key components of the Math Moves! exhibit. This permanent, hands-on experience was designed to help children and families explore mathematical concepts through physical play and real-world analogies.
This immersive exhibit brings math out of the textbook and into the physical world. Visitors interact with oversized furniture, shadow-casting puzzles, proportional geometry stations, and measurement games made to demystify concepts like ratio, scale, symmetry, and perspective.
Key fabrication components included:
Goldilocks and the Three Chairs
A playful area using child-sized, adult-sized, and oversized chairs to demonstrate scale and proportion in a tangible way.Shadow Fractions & Scaling Shapes
Grid-backed stations where guests manipulate 2D and 3D objects to study how shadows change size and shape based on distance and lighting — translating visual phenomena into fraction and ratio concepts.Comparing Forms
An interactive mirror setup and form table that lets visitors explore how shape and size relate, even when viewed from different perspectives.Geometry in Motion
AV-integrated activity stations where participants use gears, blocks, and rotating components to create repeatable geometric patterns, helping them visualize mathematical rhythm and symmetry.
Our team built all structural components from high-quality plywood and solid wood, engineered for safety, longevity, and visual cohesion. We integrated AV monitors and lighting components into the furniture pieces, ensuring everything functioned seamlessly in a busy public setting. Multilingual signage and graphic panels were installed to provide layered interpretation for diverse visitors.
Math Moves! continues to be a beloved and active part of the museum floor, inviting thousands of visitors each year to engage with math in a way that’s playful, physical, and profoundly memorable.
