Planets

Three model planets hanging indoors against a dark background with visible piping above. Built and installed at the University of Minnesota's Bell Museum.

Tasked by a museum design firm, we were commissioned to provide three planets and a moon for the new Bell Museum of Natural History at the University of Minnesota St. Paul campus. These celestial objects needed to meet stringent structural and fire safety standards.

Collaborating closely with the museum and design team, we crafted visually striking replicas of two known planets and a moon, incorporating an interpretation of a third exoplanet. Our engineering expertise ensured structural integrity, while our choice of materials guaranteed a class-one fire rating.

Our partnership involved extensive research, drawing from NASA-supplied photographs and renderings. By prioritizing authenticity, aesthetics, and cost-effectiveness, we delivered solutions that exceeded expectations while staying within the client's budget. Were were known as the go-to planet people before this project, but now we may just have a monopoly on the market.
